weekend at Awash National Park

The first weekend!  7 of us left at 6:30pm Friday, Aug.15, for a weekend camping trip at Awash National Park.  Our guide, Serion, is the son of a park ranger.

The road to our first night stop, Nazaret, is heavily congested, bumpy.  The new light rail, first in African nations, cut the city in half.  People from both sides of the rail,  climb onto the track, busy crossing over.  100 km journey took 4 hours.  The Safari lodge is very nice. a sign at door warning guests keeping the door closed to prevent cats and monkey get into the room.

Arun, the team clown, brought many laughter.

Freshly slaughtered young goat for dinner, extremely delicious.  We all ate like our ancestor 'Lucy".
Incredible night of shooting stars, constellations, Milky way, and moon, followed by fierce storm and struggle of secure rain fly in the powerful wind, and Arun's shout: "get out of there, it is dangerous!" It was hilarious.

followed by a gorgeous sunrise, every bit of water is warm.

A family routine.  Twice a day The family walk to the hot spring to wash.  The wife is ill, inching along with a can.  The husband and boy wait peacefully and patiently to help the woman across the hot stream.  I hope the hot spring can cure the illness.
